So after months of shaking off my procrastinating ways, I finally produced enough materials to launch a podcast. My first podcast!
I was so excited to finally officially be a podcaster and certain that my podcast was about to change the world. My first project to launch is the Mulberry Bush Sing-Along Project and of course I decided along with my co-presenter Suzie, that this podcasts couldn’t just be uploaded, it needed a launch party. And not just any launch party, it needed a miniature musical festival to engage and galvanize our local community to start a musical movement!
We were both so excited and the plan was coming together, date confirmed, venue booked, program planned, flyers distributed but then ….. nothing.
Our plans were halted in their tracks by the global pandemic of COVID 19. Except it wasn’t a quick, clear cut, it was a period of limbo.
The first thought being maybe we need to limit numbers? Or maybe we need to do the event outdoors? No clear idea of what was coming, how quickly, and how to protect people. Does life really need to pause for this?
When it became clear that it absolutely did, there was still an element of denial. We didn’t ask for a refund on our deposit. Our conversations took the tone of ‘2 weeks delay – a month max’. Now here we are June 2020 with no plans to hold even a regular sing-along let alone a large celebration event.
We launched online and moved forward. We adjusted our plans, weekly podcasts became a dream as we focused on keeping or local community connected through weekly Facebook lives and the new daily rhythms of having the whole family at home 24/7. So much has changed but yet still one thing remains. I am a podcaster and we will build a community by whatever means we can it might just take a little bit longer to change the world….
